Guides for Designers Update

by Naomi Niles

Several people have asked when the first guide is coming out, so I thought I’d write a quick blog post to address that.

First of all, thank you to all of you who have been so supportive. Many people signed up on the notification list and there’s been a lot more interest than I planned. That’s awesome!!

I worked much of the weekend on getting the first guide and the guides site ready. I was quietly hoping for a Monday launch, but while working on it yesterday, I changed my mind and decided I didn’t want to rush it even though it might have been possible. You know what happens when you rush, you make mistakes and that’s no fun. I like to give myself time to carefully double, triple, and quadruple check over everything.

I also want to make it worthwhile. That also meant that I spent more time putting together the website and guide design than I thought. This may sound strange, but I actually thought about buying a commercial theme and then customizing it to save time. However, that idea passed after about 5 seconds, ha! What can I say, I like to make sure everything is all tied together well even if it does take a little extra time to put together.

So, what’s the first guide going to be? I’ve decided to make “How to Prepare a Competitive Analysis for your Proposal” the first one. I decided to do this one first because I think it’ll be extremely useful for people both in terms of getting new projects and getting paid more. It’s a real biggie and something I wish I would have known about myself when we started. It would have saved me years of taking on bad projects for too little pay and spending hours combing through job boards hoping to get new projects to get my foot in the door.

And when is it going to go live? At this moment, I’ve got everything around 90% done, so I’m shooting for Wednesday or Thursday this week, crossing fingers!

Also, I’m working on getting together an Affiliate program. If that’s something you might be interested in as well, be sure to look out for that too!

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to leave a comment or contact me directly from our contact page. I’d love to hear from you!
